ARMY BRAT
Lewy V, born as LaShel Newkirk, made her debut appearance in Oahu, Hawaii on April 18, 1992. Having military parents, Lewy was moving state to state and country to country until her father retired from the Army around ‘99. Having to acclimate to such different environments every year definitely contributed to her diverse personality, and in turn, versatile music taste/influences. She started writing her own songs, lyrics and melodies, at age 7, being heavily inspired by Mariah Carey.
THE GIFT
A year later, she was gifted a keyboard for Christmas, and quickly began teaching herself to play it. She joined orchestra in 6th grade, teaching herself to play the violin as well, and went on to play all throughout high school, earning several awards and contests along the way.
THE PROCESS
After graduation, she auditioned for American Idol, making it to the 3rd level before elimination. Although that opportunity didn’t last long, she continued her music education at UW-Parkside in Kenosha, WI and received her degree in General Music in 2018.
MANIFESTATIONS
Throughout her college career, Lewy participated in most of the vocal ensembles UW Parkside had to offer, and was selected to sing abroad in India with a chamber choir. She also directed a handful of different choirs, inside and outside of Parkside.
THE LEGACY
In the midst of earning her degree, Lewy gave birth to her son, Caleb, in 2016. Lewy plans to continue her solo career in LA/Hollywood, making music and hopefully touring with her very own band someday soon!
